Herbarium of the Monte Pisano: make your own botanical bas-relief
Our Artists: Gabriele e Caterina
Studio17 is an artistic laboratory and a space for research and contamination in dialogue with ancient techniques and traditional materials. The atelier was founded in 2009 by Caterina Sbrana and Gabriele Mallegni, two artists who met and trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara.
What we do
Try the rare experience of working in a real Art Atelier in the heart of an old village on the Serchio river
What awaits us
- Art Studio visit and get to know of the artists
- Short walk in the natural landscape nearby the workshop and wild herbs picking
- Experience of “work” in the study and guided realization of a herbarium plaster
- Coffee break or aperitif with local specialties
Studio17 is a place dedicated to experimentation and research in visual and plastic arts. The Atelier is deeply rooted in the Monte Pisano area and collaborates with various institutions in the field of contemporary art and culture at national and international level.
We will start with a visit to the Art Studio, among ancient sculptures casts and contemporary artworks. The resident artists will lead us to discover their “habitat”, their researches and materials, their work that is so closed to the landscape where they work and live.
Together we’re going to collect wild herbs, going out for a short walk in the Atelier surrondings.
Once back we’ re going to create our herbarium, making the cast of the collected herbs and weeds.
We’ll realize a sort of plaster botanical bas relief with a simple but ancient tecnicque.
At the end each one will be able to take home his own bas-relief, a piece, a fragment of our landscape.
